Morote Uke

Morote Uke is a karate block. Pronounced 'mo-rot-tea-hooky'. This is the assisted block found in most styles of karate.

The reinforced or assisted block of Morote Uke is an inside block similar to the hooking block of Uchi Uke, the additional second arm is used to assist or reinforce the block by placing the opposite hand or arm against the blocking arm to strengthern the technique.

Found in many of the Heian Kata and indeed other shotokan forms, as well as other kata. The block is useful for situations that require a more forceful or stronger block, this technique can also be used as a striking or grappling technique. The video demonstrates the technique as performed and explained by our Blind Martial Arts expert Mark Brown in the mixed martial arts training facility known as Mill Hill Dojo.
