Polecat Bunkai

Bunkai is way of explaining some of the original techniques that are found in martial arts katas or forms. The forms or kata are often based on a make believe fights or based on multiple attacker situations. Sometimes, when martial art students learn kata, focus is often too much on the pattern rather than understanding what the actions of the various techniques should be used for.

Bunkai allows us to closely examine and explain move for move in more than one way of how the kata was designed to work which is known as the 'intended explanation' and then there is the 'implemented explanation' which shows an alternative to how the kata should be performed. There is no right or wrong way with Bunkai, if the method works, it works, then all is good.

Check out the Katas first if you haven't studied them yet, or watch the Bunkai videos below from the Blind Shodan Sensei Mark Brown and Sensei Robert Polecat who explain the Polecat Kata at Mill Hill MMA Dojo.
