Speedball Training

An essential part of any Boxer's arsenal is speed. While some people are born with speed, even slow people can be taught speed with the right training and dedication. A lot of fighters might not consider speed an issue, because they may already be able to hit hard, but if you can hit fast roo, then that will offer you a very good punching advantage, because more speed, quite simply means more punches.

The Speedball is found in numerous gyms and boxing halls around the world and is a simple punching ball suspended underneath a board. The boxer hits the speedball back and forth against the board and the aim is to keep the momentum of the ball moving smoothly and quickly, therefor developing speed, stamina and co-ordination.

Punching speed can be a major advantage in the ring, hitting a target multiple times at speed can have a totally different effect than simply punching a target once with power. The multiple fast punching sequences have a very different effect from a neurological aspect. A powerful punch may cause trauma, but speedy rapid continual punches can have an almost electrical shock effect due to how the nerves and the brain work.
