Punchbag Training

Most boxers will hit a punch bag as part of their regular training regime. The heavy punch bag is probably the most important tool that a boxer can use to train with, simply because using a heavy punch bag, the boxer can hit the bag as hard as they possibly can and gauge their own strength and technique, which in turn can then give the boxer an understanding of which area needs improvement.

Sparring with a partner is a great way to train, however with a partner you are limited to amount of power you can safely deliver to your opponent without over stepping the mark and destroying them, but with the punch bag, you can hit it as hard as you can without fear of hurting anybody else.

This video demonstrates a typical way to use all the boxing techniques learnt so far and put them into practice by hitting the heavy bag. It is important to start off training on the bag by not hitting it too hard, because many begginers will come in hitting the bag hard and damage their wrists or hands in the process, therefor it is beneficial to build up gradually and always wear gloves and handwraps to protect yourself.
