Mikazuki Geri

Mikazuki Geri is a karate kick. Pronounced 'mick-a-zuky-gery'. The Crescent kick of Mikazuki Geri is a karate kick that has both attacking and defending applications, unlike most other karate kicks used solely for striking, the crescent kick can be both offensive and defensive.

To perform the Crescent kick, the leg is first raised slightly to the outside of the body, the kick then travels out and hooks across in a circular or crescent motion. Unlike most other karate kicks, the leg does not fully extend in a crescent kick, the knee usually remains bent slightly as the leg travels from outside to inside across the front of your body.

The kicking technique of Mikazuki Geri has lots of applications from generally kicking an opponent, to blocking other strikes and kicks and even breaking a hold if someone has hold of your arms or wrists.

Remember the action is circular, the motion is fetched from outside the body in a round motion towards the inside and do not fully extend the leg. This technique is also useful for kicking behind an attacker, hooking or sweeping an opponent.
