How to tie a Karate Belt

Watch the video to learn how the Blind Sensei Mark Brown, ranked 1st Dan in Karate, ties his karate belt. In just a few simple steps you will have learnt how to tie your belt like a Black Belt.

taking the belt in your left arm, extend a length of the belt to your arms length. Pass the remainder of the belt around your waist, and pass the belt round again if it is quite long or you are quite slim, then pass the lower edge of the belt up through and behind the wrap so that it now peeks out of the top, tie a single knot with the remaining belt length.

In Karate, the belt system is a very important way to distinguise between different ranked Karate-ka. Usually, begginers start off in Karate wearing a white belt, as the student progresses through the ranks of karate, they may obtain many different coloured belts in the process of their learning. Usually, the colour of the belts darkens as the student progresses. The final coloured belt you can earn in karate is the Black Belt, the black belt is earned when the student is competent enough in all aspects of karate, however this is only just the tip of the iceberg, after black belt, the next step is the Dan grading system, this process can take a lifetime to achieve a high rank in the dan grades and are only usually issued to serious time served karate-ka.
