Juji Uke

Juji Uke is a karate block. Pronounced 'ju-ji-hooky'. This is the X block or cross block found in most styles of karate.

The technique of the X Block can either be used for blocking attacks from the front at both upper, middle and lower levels or for close quarter grappling. The block, also known as the cross block (Kosa Uke) is simple in execution. The first technique involves sending out one arm to the front but slightly towards the opposite side of the body, usually the left arm first with a clenched fist. This motion is the initial block. Immediately after send out the remaining arm straight out and over the top of the other arm, again clenched fist. This could be the assisted cross block or a counter strike to the opponent.

In grappling, this technique can also be used trap an arm of an opponent and draw them in, in order for consequential attacks.
