Knee Strike

Hiza Geri

Hiza Gei is a karate strike. Pronounced 'hes-a-gery'. Hiza Geri is the knee strike used in Karate styles.

The knee strike of Hiza Geri is performed by raising the knee as a strike to an opponent. The knee strike is also the first part of the basic front kick in karate, Mae Geri.

In most styles of martial arts, the knee strike is used as an effective close range strike. The legs are without a doubt the most powerful limbs on the human body, everyday they carry your entire body weight so it is no surprise to learn that the legs can naturally generate quite a lot of power. This same power can be applied into the application of the knee strike making, along with the knee itself been a very hard bone makes the Hiza Geri knee strike one of the most powerful pound for pound strikes that the human body can produce.

The only downside of the knee strike is the reach, unlike a kick or a punching technique, the knee is extremely limited to close quarters combat only.

This video demonstration shows the knee been used as a Hiza Geri knee strike for attacking and defending purposes.
