Heisoku Dachi

Heisoku dachi is a karate stance. Pronounced 'hi-so-cuw-datch' and involves standing with the feet together.

Most stances in karate require that the knees be bent, either slightly as in close stances like Han Zenkutso Dachi or more evident banding such as sin Shiko Dachi. The stance of Heisoku Dachi on the other hand is a standing stance where the knees are not bent and one simply stands tall with both the feet and the legs together.

Found in many kata, most noticably the Go Ju kata of Saifa uses Heisoku Dachi stance during the initial sequence.

To achieve this karate stance, simply stand up straight and keep both feet as close to each other as possible. Keep the legs pushed close together too and stand as tall as you can whilst still been relaxed. If you are forcing the stance, you are doing something wrong. The stance should be easy to stand and remain in, and is usually used as a transition to other stances or when about to asume the karate bowing proceedure.
