Fudo Dachi

Fudo dachi is a karate stance. Pronounced 'fu-do-datch'. The stance of Fudo Dachi is known as the immovable stance due to its dimensions and feet positioning.

To achieve this stance, place the feet approximately two shoulder widths wide with both feet facing forward, then step one foot out forward, again two shoulders width in length. The front and rear knee should both have a fair amount of bend, however the front knee should be bent more as about 75% of the body weight should be leaned onto the front leg.

The immovable stance of Fudo Dachi because of its wide footing, is known as a very stable and rooted stance perfect for pulling, pushing or rooting to the ground to make yourself 'immovable' like the name suggests.

Another way to describe the Fudo Dachi stance is that it is actually a combination of two other stances. Fudo Dachi is a combination of both Kiba Dachi and Zenkutso Dachi, a wide but forward based stance.
